Rocky River Chalet sleeps 8, and rents from mid-October to mid-May. Rocky River Chalet is an immaculately elegant, charming and private cabin with 3 bedrooms, a sleeping loft with trundle bed, 2 full kitchens and 3 full bathrooms, on 10 private acres with a hot tub, along the West Branch of the Ausable River. Rocky River Chalet is 3 miles from the Whiteface Olympic ski center, near High Peaks hiking trails and has 600 feet of river front, prime territory for your avid fly fisherman.
The river is a pleasant walk away through the cabin's wooded yard, and a relaxing spot to take your morning coffee, or watch the shades of evening draw on. Two fully equipped kitchens and a washer-dryer, complement high speed, wireless internet access and an Entertainment Center equipped with HDTV, fiber high speed internrt, laptop projection on the flat screen TV, making Rocky River Chalet your home-away-from-home in the Adirondacks.
The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, and a dedicated bath with a large, spacious shower. This Ma and Pa bedroom has stairs to the upstairs facilities, but also features an exterior door, with direct access to the outdoorsand a swing bench.
No other houses are visible from the property, and a spacious wrap around porch surveys the yard, which is ringed by birches, hardwoods and cedar. A large campfire pit sets the rendezvous point for family gatherings and picnics. We have noted the return of our eagles to their nest at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, across from our dock on the the Ausable on Jan 30th.
Runners, cyclists, cross-country skiers and hikers will run out of time, long before they run out of stunning mountain vistas to enrich their exercise, which is a major reason Ironman is held here every July. When your busy vacation day fades to dusk, there are several fine restaurants within a mile or so of Rocky River Chalet, and if you want to make a full night of it, the Olympic Village of Lake Placid beckons, 12 miles away through the Wilmington notch along the Ausable River, one of the most beautiful drives in America.
Don't forget your camera, as wildlife sightings include bobcat, red fox, fisher, the harmless Adirondack black bear and moose. If you don't see wildlife in the yard or on the trails, guests may visit the nearby Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, where friends and family can meet falcons, owls and other critters, while learningfrom Refuge personnel all about nature and how habitat and climate work to sustain the world we inhabit. Other interesting topics for discussion include how old is the universe and how long have people been on earth, how will climate change affect not only us, but the wildlife we share our planet with, and how did we develop dogs out of wolves, and livestock out of wild animals and when did that all this happen?
The Refuge provides canoes and kayaks, as well as public fishing access on Lake Everest, right across from an eagle’s nest. Routine sightings on Lake Everest and its surrounding sloughs include bald eagles, osprey, hawks, vultures, mergansers, mallards, great blue herons, beaver, mink, and many other critters.
Rocky River Chalet is a relaxing cabin, where you will put your busy careers on hold, spend quality time with friends and family, and renew yourselves, surrounded by the incomparable beauty of the Adirondack Mountains. January-02 2023The house was a perfect private spot in the woods for our winter get away. The house was spacious and clean, and there’s was a long list of instructions and helpful labels for understanding how the house operates, the town rules, and local recommended spots. Stephen plowed the driveway without us asking after some snow fall. He also took care of checking in and addressing a few things while we were there that we brought his attention to. Stephen could have been a much better communicator. I sent him a couple of messages to bring his attention to a couple of things at the house. For a couple of those examples I didn’t always get acknowledgement or response, instead he showed up without a heads up to use so he could address or look into it.

February-03 2023We had a great time! Perfect location for skiing. Stephen was very responsive. Slight issue with having hot water for showers and dishes but it was also -30 temperatures at the time. The chalet was very clean and the hot tub was perfect. The hot tub stopped working for a short period of time due to a breaker and Stephen was by within an hour to get it re-started.
